When it comes to colored contacts, the prescription isn't the only crucial factor. The base curve plays a significant role in comfort and vision.
Imagine wearing contacts from the same brand, with identical materials, water content, and diameter. Strangely, one series feels great, while the other is uncomfortable.
The culprit? The base curve difference.
Your eyes might feel discomfort if you're wearing colored contacts with an incompatible base curve. So, before you switch brands, check the base curve to find what suits you best.
The base curve is the curvature of the eye. Your eye doctor measures your base curve during an eye exam using a keratometer.
Want to know how does base curve affect vision? Here’s the answer:
• Base curve Too Large: The lens might slip or shift easily on your eyeball.
• Base curve Too Small: Tightness, irritation, redness, and blurred vision can occur as the lens sticks uncomfortably to your eyeball.
• A higher base curve means flatter colored contacts.
• A smaller base curve results in more curved colored contacts.
Visit your eye doctor for an eye exam to get an accurate base curve measurement.
The normal range of base curves is 8.3mm to 9.0mm and the most common one is 8.6mm.
At PinkyParadise, we cater to different base curves by offering a wide range of colored contacts with different base curves, from 8.3mm to 11.0mm. Including bigger base curves like 8.7mm, 8.8mm and even 8.9mm and smaller base curves like 8.3mm and 8.5mm are also available. Usually, toric lenses have a base curve of 8.5mm.
We also have colored contacts with base curves of 9.0mm, 10.0mm and 11.0mm for Mini Sclera and Sclera, usually the base curve of these lenses are not a base curve that fits anyone, they are only available in these base curves due to their big diameter.
